2025 best stuff

truth be told, 2025 sucked on so many different levels. between waking up each day to a new horror in our country, to the AI-ification of all sorts of stuff that didn’t need it, to a fall that was waaaay to warm for my liking. now, we seem to be closing the year out with some serious bullshit from the federal government pointed at minnesota. i suspect 2026 will not be a great year either.

here are a few bright spots in the consumption vein.

movie(s)

listers, a movie about competitive bird watching. far better than anything on this topic has the right to be and got the rare same-year re-watch. it’s a rare “feel good” in a year of shit.

books

these books left a mark from the past year.

  • listen liberal - a slap upside the head.
  • soul on ice - this was one of the more eye opening reads this past year.
  • i cheerfully refuse - northern minnesota dystopian fiction. a great read that sticks with you.
  • the needs of strangers - level setting perspective about the need for meaning making in our society.
  • what we owe the future - morals and values get locked in for a long time. many of the “givens” that we assume today are on the verge of being rolled back and progress is not as assured as we might hope.
